YOUTH PROGRAMS

Old Arizona's youth programs serve inner city, teenage girls who have an interest in the performing, media, and visual arts. The Arizona Bridge Project and Chicas in the Mix are successful means by which young women learn to make positive life choices.

Each program:

  • assists girls in identifying and taking steps toward realizing their goals and dreams in life,
  • encourages girls to be active authors of their lives instead of passive onlookers,
  • channels and focuses the creative energies of young women,
  • provides structure and supervision during after school and summer hours,
  • and teaches emotional and physical self-care skills.

Old Arizona youth programs offer positive leisure time activities in a supportive arts environment by successfully combining three crucial components:

  • the arts,
  • mentoring,
  • and gender-specific programming.

The summer program operates Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and accommodates up to 15 participants per class. Classes are free of charge and are on a first- come, first-serve basis. Regular attendance is encouraged of all students. Bus fare is available to committed participants.

Classes are held at Old Arizona, a center for the performing and media arts located at 2821 Nicollet Avenue located on several convenient bus lines.

Registration for ABP may take place at any time throughout the year. Applicants do not need to start at the beginning of a session. Please call to schedule a required intake prior to participation.

Our goal is for girls to become contributing members of society by building skills that will increase resiliency and self-esteem by teaching discipline and teamwork, while instilling a sense of pride in one's own cultural heritage and respect for the cultural heritage of others.

Participants must be enrolled in school.
